Covers for Fifty-Third and Dorchester

I’ve been working on a new cover for Fifty-Third and Dorchester. Too many people have told me my first cover was amateurish:

I liked it for its simplicity. But it didn’t say much about the book, so I dolled it up and published a new version:

I hate it. So I tried again.

It’s getting better, I think. I don’t hate it, but I am waiting to publish this version because I am not sure I like it better than my first effort. Designing my own cover is a luxury of self-publishing that I am not ready to forgo. The covers for my computing books at Apress are slick, but bland and impersonal, I think.

Comments are welcome.
